Seaton Tramway is the most recent incarnation of Modern Electric Tramways Ltd, a hobby masquerading as a business that unwittingly became the real thing! Its origins can be traced to Claude Lane's Lancaster Electrical Company in Barnet, North London, which built battery electric vehicles such as milk floats.
However, his passion was trams and the factory helped realise the long held ambition of constructing a 15 inch gauge tram based on ex-Darwen car 23, then running on the Llandudno & Colwyn Bay system.
