Hospiscare are asking bakers in Exeter, Mid and East Devon to organise their own Bake Off competition or to host a Big Bake Off tea party or coffee morning.

The events are to raise fund for the new Flagship Day Hospice in Honiton between Saturday 13th September and Sunday 21st September 2014.

Bake-off rules…

  • Choose a name for your Bake Off, if you want to!
  • Entries must be baked – no refrigerator cakes or jellies allowed.
  • Homemade please – no packet mixes or repackaged goodies.
  • Cakes must be adorned with the flag or sign and assigned number: if these were provided to you!
  • No swapping labels once the cakes are on display.
  • Bribing the judges is strictly not allowed, unless otherwise stated!
  • You must enter your cake under your own name, ideally it should also be the cake you baked!
  • Judges cannot enter the category/ies they are judging.

Dalwood Church

One of the oldest country fairs in the region, the Dalwood Country Fair takes place this weekend. This fabulous fair starts at 2pm on Saturday 16th August.

Dalwood has possessed a royal charter to hold their fair for 669 years! This years Fair will be opened by The Sheriff of Dalwood supported by The Axminster Town Crier.

Dalwood is approximately 3 miles from Axminster and 5 miles from Honiton in the Blackdown Hills area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

There will be a great many activities, including a Children’s Fancy Dress Competition. The competition is Wild West themed and includes a procession which starts in the Jubilee Field at 1:30pm and progresses to the Fair Field where the winner will be announced in the Main Ring.

Entrance to the Fair Field is just £2.50 and children are free.

Buses are also available to take you to the fair. There will be a service from Axminster Millway Shops departing at 1.15pm, calling at Axminster Trinity Square, Gamberlake and Kilmington Old Inn, returning at 5pm. Also from Honiton Lace Walk, departing at 1.10pm calling at Otter Valley Park and Wilmington White Hart, returning at 5pm. The bus service is provided by Sewards Coaches.


Honiton Charity Fashion Show

A charity fashion show is taking place in Honiton to raise fund for the new Hospiscare East Devon Day Centre and the Beehive.

The show takes place on Saturday 9th August at the Beehive Honiton and starts at 8:00pm.

The show will feature fashions from Beauchamp Place, Caramel, Encore, Hospiscare Shop and Secret Siren Vintage Collection.

Tickets are £8 in advance (£10 on the door) and includes a glass of complimentary fizz!!

The show will feature over 50 amazing local women who have all volunteered to strut their stuff on the catwalk, showcasing the local shops in Honiton.
